Success story: heart disease

New city. New health coach. Better health.

Moving to a new town, getting settled and into a fresh routine proved to be challenging — but achievable — for Sarah. She just needed a little help from her doctor and Katie, her health coach.

Sarah had just moved into town, but hadn’t had a chance to find a new doctor. She knew she needed to see a doctor soon because she had heart disease.

After visiting a doctor through her health care plan, her first step was to regularly take her prescribed medication. Both she and her doctor agreed that exercising and developing healthy eating habits to lose weight was a good idea.

Because her employer offered StayWell Health Management’s health coaching program, Sarah decided to get this extra help — free!

With her health coach’s unwavering support, she:

  • Signed up for an exercise class
  • Cut out after-dinner snacking
  • Switched from drinking soda to drinking water
  • Tracked her exercise and weight loss
  • Joined a weight loss contest at work for extra support

At the end of the coaching program, she decreased her total cholesterol by 38 points and lost five percent of her body weight.  She was so excited that she decided to go for five percent more!  It wasn’t long before she found that her new move was the best thing that ever happened to her.
